OK I have been playing a few weeks now and I have taken the plunge and purchased the game today (IE I deposited 50$ to get started)

So I had on me 448 peds and with the help of my new mentor john conor (Old one left me and went to other planet) I have got all the basic gear to get started and actually play for once.

So now I have been looking on the forums for ways to invest this intial stake and maybe more but how do I know who I can trust with my peds?

I see johns sponsor a noob bit and narfi buy a share of a shop but how do I know how I can trust to not take me money and leave,

I have been trying to grasp this game it is the 1st ever real cash game I have played so is there any players your would reccomend I stick with or (Probably best on PM) avoid.

I don't mind chucking in 30$ or so a month but I don't want to get to be the victim of a scammer.

I am sure you will get lots of feedback on this post as it is a very good question indeed.

I don't think anyone on this forum can give you a list of people you can trust 100% as it is personal opinion, I trust about 2-3 people completely but that is based on my experience with them personally.

The best way for you to decide who is trust worthy and who is not is check there name on here and also ask people you know how they feel about something, All I can say is never give/lend anything to anyone that you are not prepared to lose

You are always safest trusting only yourself.
The safest investment right now is Calypso Deeds which are 1k ped each. They are supposedly going to give a return of 25-30ish% annually and dont require that you pool with others to invest in more expensive items.

Ideas like my shop co-op are more for the entertainment value (though it will produce some potential income) The same with Johns project, the idea is more to help new players out than to bring yourself a big profit. (Although I have profited every time I have donated to his project, I see each donation as just that, a donation)
Your natural suspicions for projects like this are very accurate though, 99% of things I have seen similar to this have turned bad on the original planet of Calypso. There have also been bad deals happen on Rocktropia so it is wise to be cautious.
Everyone involved in the shop co-op project (we purchased the shop last week) has known me and interacted with me for over a year.
Even that doesn't necessarily make you safe, there have been trust scams take place by people working for longer than a year to build up the trust necessary to pull off their final goal.

This is a game, and by design should cost you a little bit to play each month unless you really work hard at the business aspects of it.
Either John or I could show you how the smartest way to make your peds last doing normal activities, and I think esp. at the beginning this is a more realistic goal than making profits.

That being said, there are always opportunities to profit from things if you are savvy enough and understand the dynamics of the economy. It is always changing though and today's opportunity could turn into tomorrows curse. :P

I think that's why its so much fun for me, You always have to be changing and adapting your strategies.

Use common sense and if anything sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

ps. One idea with the ammount of ped you are talking about is talk to Ivi, Anne and myself (the three most active traders on Rocktropia right now) about what prices we pay for different stuff and then buy stuff for 1% less than that and when one of us logs on you know you can sell it right away for a small profit. Of course you would need a guarantee of prices, but you wont need to worry about the hassle of transporting to calypso auction or anything like that, really a pretty painless opportunity for you.

Well i played 4 less than year and you should be very cautious as i have seen peaple who have played for years be scammed so easy. As you only first started i would reconmend investing in your self the game can be rather expencive at start. This way you can play to build up your skills that is worth ped at the end of the day. I would also reconmmend Narfi and john as i trust both of quite highly on ROCKtropia.

Thank you for replys I have spoken to john ingame today (Or annoyed him for about 2 hours with constant PM's with questions) and I been given some quite good (I think anyway) advise on the best use of my ped.

I am now not going to invest much I have decide to invest a maximum of 10% of my peds into projects maybe so if it goes (In johns words not mine) "Tit's up" I am not losing much.

I dont know what advice i can give you that Narfi and Conner dont know. I will be back on the rock in weeks time time to host my event if you have not already you should sign up you should its free. I will be around all weekend promoting the event and killing zombies. So you can add me then i am always willing to help if i can.

I so far have not had a problem with anyone the small investments I have made with players has returned me at least the peds I have invested, I have looked at your last posts and I know about DM but whyy tarnish a whole planet with the same brush as bad experence from 1 person who is now banned.

My friend joined same day as me on calipso and already he has been scammed out of fake team hunt with wrong settings and his mentor did not bother to help or explain where everyone I met here does.

Sorry if out of line but if you dont like this planet then fuck off back to calipso and stop posting here!

To summarize what has already been said here and what I believe are the two most basic but also most important rules that everyone should read and remember when it comes to scamming:

1. Never trust no one, and then I really mean no one!
2. Never give/lend someone what you are not prepared to loose!

And just to add a small but helpful advice to avoid being scammed, if you initiate a trade make sure you know what is in the trade window and what the item(s) potential value are for you!! (both what you are selling and buying)
