Default In Game Music - Some Praise, An Idea, and A Humble Request

To the fine people at Neverdie Studios,

    Some Praise:

Recently, the in game music has in, my humble opinion, improved dramatically. Although the rap/hip/hop stuff still leaves me cold & dead deep down in my musical soul... Nevertheless, I find the mix of disparate genres and eras to work extremely well and I enjoy most of what I'm hearing. A small sampling of what I've loved in particular are:

Curtis Mayfield - No Thing On Me (Oh please more from this wonderful musical time)

Motorhead - Various (Seems so fitting!)

Pink Floyd - Careful with that Axe Eugene (Yes!! I started axing everything I could where Lootius was)
    - See Emily Play (As Skeezer plays ;-)
    - Atom Heart Mother Suite (Oh man, the whole thing kept blissfully playing on - was sublime)

Iron Maiden - Running Free (Of course, I traipsed like mad)

David Bowie - Major Tom (I was out in the hinterland mining - very nice)

LCD Soundsystem - Loosing My Edge (Tenacity!!! Wonderful - such a joy to hear; after all, I was there...)

Jimi Hendrix - Various (Love this stuff and whichever song happens to be playing, it's always good)

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger (I actually, really enjoyed this as I was laying waste to werewolves - looted an eye too boot!)

James Brown - Various (Yes please more!)

Doors - ?Fuck Me All Night Long? (Yawp!! I think I have this on picture disc somewhere; now, what song is this again?)

Kraftwerk - Computer Love (Hee Hee)

Alice Cooper - Brutal Planet (I see what you did there and I like it)

I've also loved a lot of the ambient and electronica things, a piano sonata (what was it?), some beautiful female vocalist downbeat type thing, some British New Wave songs, old time blues stuff and others that I sadly can't identify.

    Which naturally leads to....

    An Idea:

A "Now Playing" Terminal or Screen!
Wouldn't it be great to have something like this to see what you are hearing? As is clear from the above, I can't always tell what is playing and there are times that I need to know! The music planet needs to speak to us about the music.
Web cam pointed at the music stream server? Desktop capture stream to in game ad screen? Somehow, this must be done...
    This must simply be. ;-)

    A Humble Request:

Ween! Please, I still haven't heard Ween in game yet and I'm pretty sure that I might have made this request before...

Oh!!! And please Skinny Puppy! and Manowar! and Butthole Surfers! and The Sun Kings! and Dead Can Dance! and Marvin Gaye! and The Zombies! and Christian Death! and bauhaus! and Celtic Frost! and English Dogs! and Carl Orff! and Link Wray! and Slayer! and Cirith Ungol! and Jim Croce! and Neil Diamond! and Parliament! and Jefferson Airplane! and Buddy Holly! and The Temptations! and the Beatles! and Stevie Wonder! and Bad Religion! and The Carpenters! and Bathory! and ABBA! and Venom! and Moby! and They Might Be Giants! and Strawberry Alarm Clock! and Voivod! and Judas Priest! and Borghesia! and The Clash! and Percy Faith! and oh so many, many more! Oh, and WEEN!

    With fond regards,
    Skeezer

So yesterday, I was in a fun opalo team hunt and we had a discussion about the music playing: Was it German opera? Italian opera? No one could say for certain...

Consider this a bump for having a Now Playing terminal or something like it in game ;-)

    Hello to you all again,

I am still convinced that having an ad screen or terminal in game that showed the song that was Now Playing would be a good idea.

So, here are a few more of the songs that you might have heard that I've particularly enjoyed and that I can identify for you:

New Order - Temptation (wonderful stuff)

King Crimson - Court of the Crimson King (This is what i love! Great epic songs that surprise you by being here and by being played in all their glory! ~ 10 minutes of Joy!)

Canned Heat - On the Road Again (oh yes, time to go camping)

NWA - Dope Man (Haha, the 80's return to haunt me anew; and yes, i know the words and sang? along?!?! lol)

Nine Inch Nails - March of the Pigs (Oh, it made me feel better...)

Elton John - Tiny Dancer (Hehe, Tiny Dancer ;-)

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand (Very wicked! One of the discs found through here: HALLOWEEN HAUNT 2009 has the definitive version of this song imho)

And there ya be, music is the poetry of the soul...

No Doc, thank you! I was beginning to feel that my musical cri de coeur was falling on deaf ears.

I like the idea, but I doubt that it can be done by NDS without MA adding this option to the client. Stuff like that normally doesn't run server sided but client sided, which means on your pc. So without MA playing along and adding it we won't see a nice feature like that.

Blue Mars as pc game is done, they're going "mobil", read their blog. Second Life has hundreds of musicians who do live performances for the past 5-6 years, you're a bit late with pioneering. Anyway, Rocktropia is a new planet and will be all about music. Check Rocktropia and click Planet Overview. Live performances...who knows. But if we'll see this on Rocktropia, it might not be the singer/songwriter/cover version performers as in other virtual worlds.

I replied to you in the other thread. We should continue there, because this thread is mostly about the music that's played by ND Live throughout the game.

    Hello Anek,

I have no idea if your vision of music in this world will ever be possible, but I would love to see something like that happen!

Either way, welcome to Rocktropia as it is now and let's continue to hope for more.

Oh, and I finally heard Ween in game!! Video of my ecstatic, emotional, reaction shall arrive anon. The song by Ween was Exactly Where I'm At by the way and I look forward to hearing more ;-)
