Exclamation New Save Reality, Go Virtual Charity Event

See it. Film it. Change it.
“Psst. Don’t tell Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, or Rupert Murdoch,
but the most influential filmmakers in the world aren’t in Hollywood.”

Announcing the first in a series of monthly charity fund raising events at Club Neverdie, beginning Friday, August 11. All proceeds from ticket sales as well as some sponsor and promoter donations from this event will benefit the charity called WITNESS.

WITNESS is a charity dear to my heart, and so I chose it to kick off this series. A little about the charity: WITNESS was founded in 1992 by musician and activist Peter Gabriel and the Reebok Human Rights Foundation as a project of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (now Human Rights First). WITNESS partners with human rights defenders, training them to use video to document abuse and create change. WITNESS uses the power of video to open the eyes of the world to human rights abuses. By partnering with local organizations around the globe, WITNESS empowers human rights defenders to use video to shine a light on those most affected by human rights violations, and to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools of justice. Over the past decade, WITNESS has partnered with groups in more than 60 countries, bringing often unseen images, untold stories and seldom heard voices to the attention of key decision makers, the media, and the general public -- catalyzing grassroots activism, political engagement, and lasting change.

For further details please visit http://www.witness.org

    Now to the event:

This will be a simple hunting event, in domes 1-5 on CND, Friday, August 11, from 20:00 MA time until 22:00 MA time. The rules are simple, no melee weapons, highest total loot wins, and all levels of players and weapons are welcome. It is going to be a free-for-all, and the most important rule is to have fun, win loot and prizes, and make a difference in the real world, all at the same time.

    1st place prize: 200ped
2nd place prize: full set of 2C armour plates
3rd place prize: free tickets to the next six events in the Champions League Series

There will also be one small treasure hidden in each dome to be found and collected. Please note location and time of your find and share with me after the event, so I can be sure all items have been collected by event participants.

Music in the domes will of course be offered up by ND. We are thinking World music a good choice for the charity events, but if ND runs short of time of course we can still dance with the mobs to whatever he puts on for us. (Side note: any budding DJs out there, Peter Gabriel currently has a cool competition going on to remix "Shock the Monkey", check out http://www.realworldremixed.com/competition.php )

After the event is of course the infamous CND afterparty. This will take place at Beta South apartment complex, Apt. 6F, better known as Psycho Al’s place. There will be a couple of additional small prizes for the dancers at the party as well.

A very limited number of tickets for this event are available at a discount price of 16 ped from myself, Psycho Al, and possibly other ticket resellers (will edit here if anyone offers). Because the event is for charity, the goal is to have the majority of tickets purchased at full price (20ped) directly from the dome 1-5 land marker terminal on CND. This allows a greater amount of ped from ticket sales to go to the charity.

To purchase and register tickets (register as early as you can but no later than 15 minutes before event starts to be able to enter the event) from the terminal, go to the fertilizer room just West of the Control Room. You will find the terminal for Domes 1-5 on your right. Click on the blue landowner's marker screen, when the window pops up, click on the running man in the upper right corner of the box to open the event schedule window. Click (or double click) on the title of the event (on the left) to open up yet another window. Click on "register" and drag your ped card to the window to purchase a ticket, or your ticket to register. Clicking on confirm will indicate that you are indeed registered.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to pm me here and I will do my best to answer. Pilots, if you want to help out with the event by offering reduced flights as your own contribution, please let me know and I will keep a list for ticket buyers and update this thread with your details.

Please spread the word and hope to see the domes full of fun people on Friday. Special thanks in advance to our sponsors, ND, Klod, Etopia, Unique Mallo Woman, Kahr, La and everyone who helps out in even the smallest way. You are special and I love you.

(Edit: Special thanks to my fellow Free Wanderer Ilga Beck for the new graphic!)

Refreshing. Very nice to see online events for charity. Sry I cannot attend (out of town and melee-exclusive anyway) but I look forward to hearing about how it went and hope to partake in future events.

Yes, I have my ticket already ... got it on Tuesday from the event terminal to contribute the full amt instead of the discounted ticket, so I'm ready to go!

I'm sure this will be a nice event, and I'm willing to support it since I have the time Friday evening.

This is such a great event, and we truly appreciate all the effort you are devoting to this!!

I wish I could be there, but the whole crazy timezone thing is getting in the way again, and RL job won't allow me to squeeze in the party (I'm -7 to MA time).

I don't have tickets to sell myself, but I know several who do and I'm happy to help anyone get in touch with one of them .. so if you need a ticket, feel free to ask me and I'll track one of the ticket agents down for you.

Even though I can't make it to the event, Lee, I do have a PED donation for the charity -- I'll get it to you by this weekend.

Have a great time everyone, and lets hope to raise a nice donation for WITNESS.

Just a quick update, only a few if any tickets left now except from the terminal on CND, and the folks who may have some left for sale at discount prices are Sniper and Carrie generally in Twin, Sir Odd, on CND now I believe, and of course Fliss or myself can help you to contact these folks if needed.

Thanks to all of you who have helped to spread the word, please continue to do so by hitting your fl and soc mates to ask them to come along if they can.

Also, in order to help possibly with the skeptics I have asked now if an email or letter can be sent from Witness verifiying the donation after the event on behalf of the players of Entropia Universe. Those who know me don't have to ask, but the wider community needs this reassurance it seems, and that is fine.

We may not raise a ton of cash for the charity, but some at least, and more importantly many now know of it when they did not before. Proof that virtual reality can affect reality in a positive way.
